  • Many, many ships (Jayru WIP Thread)

    More refinement and details added:

    FX added:

And that leads finally to this:

Couple more images I want to create, including the one where the ships are linked up, and the I'll dive into something else...

    Comments welcome, more tomorrow :-)

@MikkiKashiwagi: As you wish. See below :)
@Mustang13Camaro68: I'm thinking of modeling the lower docking bay since I made an NX-01 shuttlecraft.
@CptBenSisko: I didn't think it would be difficult to make this mesh when I saw at first. Then I realized that the detail itself defines this ship.
This is my most detailed model so far with approx 2.2 mil polycount.

Do you mean the gathered dirt in the shader? I think the hull is using the Dirt shader which is like the old mental ray AO shader. All the rest is just a dated version of Vray Next v3.1

This is an original design of mine. Some sort of orbital fighter inspired by the Tigershark from Wing Commander Prophecy and of course in orbital black and white like the Shuttle.

I'm hoping to figure out texture painting in blender to do decals or at least brush up on texture skills. Also, would like to figure out an easy way to animate RCS firing while maneuvering.

It's got hatches for radiators and air intakes for atmospheric flight, but I'll have to design some wings

Too tempting to have a kickback modeling session so out comes this old model for some panels on the strut things.

Well, although I don't think I can keep up this rythm, some progress has been made!

    Deck distribution

    wg2mdw9dswja.png

Decks are about 4m in height, the thinner lines are where the floor is, the space under and over the ceiling is for power lines, data tubes, DIF generators, artificial gravity, holoemitters, Jefferey's tubes for maintenance, distributed computer nodes, sensors of all kinds (temperature, humidity, smoke, biofilters, ... This is quite the advanced ship, after all... :-) Decks are not linear, though, in some parts of the ship, floors go up or down as convenient (for example, the Flight Operations center in deck 2, over the Main Hangar will be slightly elevated. Some parts of decks 5 and 6 will also accommodate for the storage areas for shuttles, parts and other avionics going into the neck).

And a detail on the Warp nacelles, showing the highlights of the newer ILN-70x series, with concentric Warp coils for improved field generation and heat transport. Not shown are the multiple computer sensors that micromanage the field in order to coordinate with on-flight demands, especially from long range sensors from the ORACLE and VATES sensor suites. The Fulgor-class will probably sport a VATES sensor suite, like her cousin ship.

Time for an image dump? I think it's time for an image dump. Anyone on the Discord server pretty much saw this progress as it happened. Well, not live. I'd post these same screenshots. Anyway, unless there's anything else I can think of, the neck is pretty much done.

And now, I get to detail the section that started this entire build! WOO!

Great job on the Romulan Brid of Prey model...not too keen on the Klingon paint job though. The model looks very true to the blueprints.

If you are interested in doing other Romulans, I would recommend that you give Atolm's designs a look see. My avi is one of his designs.

That's an idea. Although I'm trying to expand my horizons a bit. For instance the Scout Trooper and speeder bike will be my first foray into the Star Wars universe of design. The helmet has been a challenge because of the face mask part. That and I'm attempting to model a humanoid shape. Before that there were the Star Trek series of ship designs. Before that I did a lot of stuff in the BattleTech universe.

As for the Romulan BoP, perhaps you prefer the original paint scheme? http://lady-die.deviantart.com/art/At-Last-Report-98104950

Any Legend of Zelda fans out there? For some time I've been picking at a version (my own) of the Temple of Time/Sacred Grove scene. Especially the Temple Ruins from the game Twilight Princess.

A few years ago I did this scene based on the Master Sword pedestal from the artwork in the game's booklet for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. http://lady-die.deviantart.com/art/Legend-of-Zelda-Master-Sword-48356218

I got the idea to expand on the Temple Ruins concept by building the sword chamber, then ruining it! To expand on the central design I plan to add a series of relief sculptures on the walls depicting scenes from the game's lore and scenes from the titles.

Which means building a series of statues to create said relief sculptures... That's a bit of work to try and design objects that have little reference in the original source material.
